Brazil (Portuguese Brasil [bɾaˈziw]) is the world's area and population-fifth-largest country and over 186 million people the most populous South America. It occupies 47% of the continent and borders (as seen from the Northeast counter clockwise) to French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay and the Southern Atlantic Ocean and has a common border with every South American country except Chile and Ecuador.
