| Brazil (Portuguese Brasil [bɾaziw]) is the area-and population-fifth largest state in the world and with over 186 million inhabitants the most populous of South America. He takes 47% of the continent, bordering (clockwise seen from the northeast) to French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay and the southern Atlantic Ocean and thus has every South American country except Chile and Ecuador have a common border.
