Armação dos Búzios (also) Buzios) is a popular holiday resort of international stature in the State of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Since the Entdeckung by Brigitte Bardot and Jacques Cousteau in 1964 Buzios is formerly a sleepy fishing village, considered the Perle of Costa do Sol (coast of the Sun) East of Rio de Janeiro. Until 1997, Búzios was a part of the city of Cabo Frio, since it is an independent municipality with an area of 89 km2. Due to immigration, also from Germany, the population to approximately 30,000 (as of August 2007) trebled since 1997. Tourism (approximately 13,000 beds) became the most important industry before fishing: in 2006 only Foz recorded do Iguaçu and the five million cities (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Salvador, Recife and Brasilia) more foreigners nights as the small Buzios in Brazil. Among Brazilians, Búzios is considered as elitist. Tourism infrastructure and versatile gastronomy at a high level-low room unique in South America. Argentine and French provide the largest foreigner quotas as residents and tourists.
The idyllic town centre is located on a 16 km² large, hilly peninsula. Rings around the peninsula are 25 Beach bays, which are one of the most beautiful Brazil. The balanced throughout the year, maritime climate and relative proximity to Rio de Janeiro (170 km) the popularity of Buzios contribute to, continue to the fishing village atmosphere quite well preserved by strict building regulations: in Buzios may only and Gables built, there is ban on building on most beaches. Large multi-story hotel complexes are in Buzios not often overlooking the sea on the slopes located many family-run mini-hotels (pousadas) and Guest Houses, instead.
