Campos dos Goytacazes is located a city in the State of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil with 390.700 inhabitants (1 January 2004), on the Rio Paraiba do Sul, 280 kilometers northeast of the city of Rio de Janeiro do.
Campos dos Goytacazes covers an area of 4031,91 km².
In the region, in particular sugar cane is grown and processed, followed by coffee, tobacco and tropical fruits. However, the role as a center of oil production is economically important.
The biggest attraction of the city is from the year 1652, ancient basilica of "São Salvador". Also the quiet beaches with chalets and houses by local fishermen are worth a visit.
The high waves in the vicinity of the mouth of the Rio Furado suited excellently for surfing.
Campos dos Goytacazes is also seat of a bishop.
